ESG at Fagron
Corporate social responsibility lies at the core of Fagron’s activities and strategy. Fagron products and services contribute every day to improving people’s health.
As a global company with the purpose to create the future of personalizing medicine, we aim to produce all our products ethically and responsibly. We strive to create long-term value for all our stakeholders: customers, employees, investors, and society as a whole. We do this by lowering our environmental impact, providing benefits to our people, taking responsibility in our supply chain, and giving back to the communities in which we operate.
Low impact on the environment:
- Reduce greenhouse gas intensity (scope 1 and 2 emissions and scope 3 business travel emissions) with 30% compared to 2019 emissions by 2025;
- Reduce energy intensity with 18% compared to 2019 energy use by 2025;
- Use 50% renewable energy by 2025 and 100% in 2030;
- Reduce NOx emission intensity from our facilities and vehicles with 40% compared to 2019 emissions by 2025;
- Separate paper/carton, and metal and plastic packaging at all Fagron facilities by 2025.
In October 2023, after validation, the Science Based Target initiative approved Fagron’s near-term emission reduction targets for Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
Benefit to our people:
- Equal female/male distribution throughout management by 2025;
- At least 1/3rd of senior management female by 2025;
- Sustainable engagement score of at least 80% by 2024;
- No fatalities and high consequence work related injuries;
- Annual career development and performance discussions for at least 80% of our employees
Responsibility in the supply chain:
- Acceptance of Fagron’s Business Partner Code of Conduct by suppliers that supply at least 75% of our trading products (in value) by 2025.
Good governance:
- No compliance issues at Fagron NV and Fagron BV
- 90% of Fagron employees finalize the annual Code of Conduct training;
- All Fagron employees have access to a confidential counselor by 2025.
Giving back:
- Annual Fagron Foundation month (where all Fagron companies will organize activities to raise awareness and money for an alternating charity)
Fagron’s ESG strategy, ESG policies and ESG reporting comply with national and international regulations. Fagron reports on non-financial information in line with the EU Directive 2014/95/EU and the resulting legislation in Belgium.
In preparation for the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), we disclose in our 2022 annual report with which CSRD reporting requirements, as stipulated in the – draft – European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS) we already comply. These ESRS are not yet final and may change during 2023. Our 2022 annual report also includes an ESRS index.

Fagron strives to reduce the impact of our operations on the environment by setting ambitious targets to limit our contribution to climate change, reduce our emissions to air and soil and improve our waste management. Our efforts to lower our environmental impact contribute to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7 as defined by the United Nations (affordable and clean energy) and SDG 13 (climate action) by reducing greenhouse gas emissions in our operations and our investment in solar panels and energy saving measures.

Through our facilities and our supply chain, Fagron has direct or indirect contact with local communities around the world. Fagron strives to have a positive impact on the communities in which we operate. We expect our business partners to conduct business ethically, in line with our Business Partner Code of Conduct – available on our website. Our efforts to take responsibility in our supply chain contribute to SDG 8 (Decent work and economic growth).
Fagron supplies products that are vital to the operation of healthcare systems in the markets where we operate. Besides improving patients’ lives and increasing the accessibility to medicine, Fagron gives back to the communities where we operate via our Fagron Academy by educating on pharmaceutical compounding and personalizing medicine and via the Fagron Foundation by leveraging resources to increase access to healthcare. Our products, Fagron Academy and Fagron Foundation contribute to SDG 3 (Good health and well-being).
Fagron considers good governance vital to conducting business. It helps to ensure a responsible way of doing business and running our activities. This includes compliance with laws and regulations, prevention of corruption and bribery, a fair tax policy, giving employees access to grievance mechanisms and guaranteeing product quality and safety, and contributes to SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth).
Fagron has a Code of Business Conduct which describes what is expected from all our employees – individually and as a team – in every market and at all levels in the organization. The Code empowers and gives guidance to all employees in recognizing and dealing confidently with Fagron’s day-to-day challenges. Adherence is an integral part of how we conduct our business. Fagron is one of the 25 companies that are included in Euronext Amsterdam’s AEX ESG Index. The index identifies the 25 companies that demonstrate the best Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices from the 50 constituents of the AEX and AMX indices. Additionally, Fagron has been selected as one of the 20 companies in the BEL® ESG index. This index identifies and tracks the companies within the BEL® 20 and the BEL® Mid indices that have demonstrated the best ESG practices.
